No parents, no future. Poor Children in Nepal
SOS Children´s Village Kavre, the seventh SOS Children´s Village in Nepal is situated
in Panauti-2, Kavrepalanchowk district, about 28 km east of the capital city Kathmandu. The village is located just near to the link road between Banepa and Panauti.
The main reason for the establishment of this SOS Children´s Village was the need of more family-based care in the region of Kathmandu. SOS Children´s Village Sanothimi was not big
enough to admit all the children in need. SOS Children´s Village Kavre started its operation in November 1997. It was officially opened in 1999 in the presence of the late king Birendra and
Mr. Helmut Kutin, the president of SOS-Kinderdorf International. It consists of 14 family houses, which has been providing family care for 142 children under the comprehensive standard set
by Nepal Government. 14 mothers, 5 aunts and other 7 supporting staffs are jointly engaged to the care of children.
SOS Children´s Village Kavre focuses on family-based, long-term care of children who can no longer grow up with their biological families. Especially we brought up orphan and destitute
children with free of prejudice regarding to their caste and culture. They grow up in a stable family environment, and are supported individually until they become independent young adults.
To achieve these vision and mission, the organization arranges a series of programs for the children and co-workers through out the year.
SOS Hermann Gmeiner Higher Secondary School is an ancillary project of SOS Children´s
Village Kavre. The school provided quality education for the both SOS village children and the children from community.
The school is providing quality education for 529 students with the help of 34 dedicated
teaching staffs and other 7 maintenance staffs.
